For many, many reasons this has been the summer to end all summers for me. It included everything from a one-week vacay in Orlando with my totally adorable niece, Taryn, to a 3-week bout with bronchitis. So to say that there have been ups and downs would be an understatement indeed.
One of the definite ups however, is that I finally (FINALLY!) started performing my poetry. Believe it or not, I went in to get my passport renewed, and the person inteviewing me said “So you’re a writer? Do you write poetry?” And the rest, as they say, is history.
Spurred on by many encouraging responses, I have spent the weeks since then performing, writing, submitting to publishers. The gods are in my favor, it seems, and for once, I am actually trying to cooperate.
Hence, this blog.
My beloved big sister, bless her patient heart, has been trying to get me to do this for the past 2 years. And boy, have I resisted. But after the umpteenth time of being asked: “So do you have a site? Do you have a blog? Where can I see your stuff?”…and having to respond: “No. Not yet. I’m working on it.” I finally got tired of my own excuses and took the plunge.
So here it is and here I am.
I’ll be posting poetry, songs, random thoughts, works in progress…whatever takes my fancy, I guess. But at least now I have somewhere I can point people to.
So with that being said, here’s the first poem; one of my favorites. Hope you like it.

The Feast
Have you ever known a
Dangerous man?
That’s the kinda guy who has
A red velvet couch
And a UV light
In his room in his Momma’s house
Credit’s off-track
Wears only black
Earring in eyebrow
Tattoo on back
And a minimal attention span…
That’s a portrait of a
Dangerous man
Have you ever known a
Dangerous love?
That’s the kind of love that just
Sucks your blood
And leaves you dry
Yet you ALWAYS stand by your guy
For the same vampire
That bleeds you dry
The same vampire
That makes you cry
That same vampire,
I testify
Makes you feel you’re flying high…
Like you and him fit hand in glove
(I mean, between friends, what’s a little shove?)
That’s a portrait of a
Dangerous love
Have you ever known a
Dangerous heart?
That’s the kind of heart you have:
Painfully addicted
Desperately needy
You’re caviar and he’s lean cuisine
Of course, you don’t see that
You never, never see
That you got bitten
Because you asked
That limb by limb you be
Ripped apart
That’s a portrait of a
Dangerous heart
And him?
He’s gorged on your ordained defeat
For you can never quite compete
With the squelching thrill of that
First
Fresh
Bite
So don’t even try…
Instead:
Beware, my child,
For this is the
Nature of
The Beast
And you?
Child,
you
are
